Fall River, MA - Joseph Paul Costa, 89, of Gabriel House, Fall River, MA, formerly of Point Gloria, Fall River, died Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Center, Fall River, MA. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Flynn Costa. Born in Portsmouth, RI on May 15, 1919, he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary Correia Costa.Mr. Costa grew up and lived in Portsmouth for many years. He later lived in Tiverton, RI and then retired to Florida with his wife for over 15 years. Joseph worked for many years on the Newport Navy Base and also worked as a bartender at Temblays in Portsmouth and the Surf Hotel in Newport. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Joseph was a member of the DAV due to injuries received in the war. He was a longtime communicant of St. Anthonys Church and a former usher and volunteer for the St. Anthonys Feast. He is survived by his sister Alice Maynard of Taunton, MA and many nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late William Costa, John Costa, Alfred Costa, George Costa, Michael Costa and August Costa. His funeral will be held on Monday, August 11, 2008, at 9:00am, from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Patricks Cemetery in Fall River.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 10 from 4-7pm in the funeral home.
