Joseph Ponte Vieira, Jr

Joseph P. Vieira, Jr., 97, of Honeyman Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Saturday, October 8, 2001 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of the late Thelma Helger Vieira and the late Florence Northup Vieira.Born in Newport, RI on May 25, 1914, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Maria Garcia Vieira.Mr. Vieira was a supervisor in the Plating Polishing Department at the former Quonset Point Naval Air Station for 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed painting and woodworking, and will forever be remembered as an all around family man.He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Cathy Vieira of Smithfield, VA; his grandchild, Theresa Joseph Vieira; his great-grandchild, Dalton Vieira; his step-daughters, Ann O?Connor and Jean Pine, both of Middletown, RI; his brother, Jesse Vieira of Portsmouth, RI; his sisters, Helen Prescott and Barbara Ames, both of Middletown, RI; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Joseph W. Vieira and the brother of the late Anthony and Manuel Vieira, Mary Lynch, Connie Silveira and Theresa Dresser. A graveside committal service will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 2 pm in Newport Memorial Park, 123 Howland Avenue, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
