Joseph R. Silvia

Middletown, RI - Joseph Rosa Silvia, 84, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at home in Middletown, RI. He was the husband of Eleanor Catherine Moriarty Silvia.Born in Newport, RI, on July 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Frank Rosa and Mary Garcia Silvia.Mr. Silvia was a carpenter for over 35 years, having last worked for the Genga Bros, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland during World War II. Mr. Silvia was a member of Trinity Church and the Vasco da Gama Society.Besides his wife, he is survived by his brother Manuel Silvia of Newport, RI, his brother Anthony Silvia of Newport, RI, his sister Anna Calibani of Stoughton, MA, many nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews.He was predeceased by his brothers, Frank, Raymond and Henry Silvia, and by his sister Mary Silvia Pasquale.His funeral services will be private.Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 222 Richmond Street, Suite 108, Providence, RI 02903.
