Middletown, RI - Joseph Rose Alvernes, 87, of 333 Green End Avenue Middletown, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI.He was the husband of Helen Frances Worhle Alvernes. Born in Portsmouth, RI on November 8, 1917, he was the son of the late Joseph Rose and Mary Bettencourt Alvernes. Mr. Alvernes owned and operated the North Shore Van Lines moving company. He is survived by two sons Joseph Alvernes of Middletown and Jeffrey Alvernes of Little Compton, RI, and five daughters Judith Nagle of Middletown, RI, Jacquelyn DeMello of Portsmouth, Jerilyn Gardner of Jacksonville, FL, Jane Halladay of Portsmouth, RI, Jill St.Ours of Tiverton, RI, and Joanna Lloyd of Cleveland, OH, fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Anthony Alvernas, Frank Alvernas, Marion Perry, Mary Perry, Belle Perry, Rose Souza and Emily Almeida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 22 at 9:00am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be private.Memorial donations may be made to the Grand Islander HCC Activity Fund, 333 Green End Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842.
