Joseph Saunders, Sr

Bristol, - Joseph Saunders, Sr, BTCM, USN, Ret. 65, of the Rhode Island Veterans Home, Bristol, formerly of 31 Carter Drive, Portsmouth, died Thursday, November 7, 2002 at Fatima Hospital Providence, RI. Born in Chicago, IL on January 9, 1937, he was the son of the late Estelle Kendricks. Mr. Saunders served in the United States Navy for 27 years retiring in 1983. He retired as a Master Chief Boiler Technician, he was awarded chief of the year in 1973. Mr. Saunders enjoyed fixing cars for his friends. He is survived by his former wife Christine Quarles Saunders, of Portsmouth, RI and five daughters; Diane J. Mapp of North Providence, RI, Renee Mapp Orlando, FL, Valerie Morgan Cranston, RI, Debra Johnson Chesapeake, VA, and Cathy Saunders of Newport, RI. Also three sons Charles Martin Newport, RI, Joseph Saunders Newport, RI, and Harry Saunders Orlando, FL, 20 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Charles Martin. His funeral will be held Wednesday, November 13, at 1:00 PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter.
