Joseph Silveira

Middletown, RI - Joseph Silveira, 83, of Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.Born in Newport, RI on July 10, 1926, he was the son of the late Manuel R. and Rita Soares Silveira.Mr. Silveira served in the United States Navy during World War II and then again in the Korean War at the Bethesda Navy Hospital. Upon his discharge he came back and became a barber for 35 years and also was the proprietor of JS Construction and Excavating. Joe was a member of South Swansea Baptist Church.He is survived by his nephew Henry Reynolds of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers, William Silveira of Tiverton, RI and Manuel R. Silveira, III of Irvine, CA, his sister Margaret Viveiros of Portsmouth, RI and six other nieces and nephews.His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 10:00 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Friday, November 6, 2009, from 4-8 in the funeral home.
