NEWPORT, RI - Joseph T. Calarese, 95, of 303 Valley Road, Middletown, RI, formerly of Cumberland, RI and Sun City Center, FL, died Tuesday, November 29, at Village House Nursing Home, Newport. He was the husband of the late Florence Bernadette Page Calarese. Born in Milford, Massachusetts on May 15, 1910, he was the son of the late Alfonso and Alberta Leo Calarese. Mr. Calarese with his late wife owned and operated the former Francine Shops of New England, in Woonsocket, Cape Cod and New Castle, NH. He was a former member of Kirkbrae County Club of Lincoln, RI and Wanumetonomy Golf Country Club in Middletown. Mr. Calarese was past president of Rhode Island Retail Association also the past president of Woonsocket Retail Trade Board, as well as past vice president of the Woonsocket Chamber of Commerce. After his retirement, he was a volunteer counselor for SCORE through the RI SBA, assisting businesses throughout the state. He was a member of Jesus Saviour Church in Newport. He is survived by his daughter Francine Lucci and her husband Aurelio ?Al? Lucci of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers James Calarese of Belchertown, MA, and Francis Calarese of Longmeadow, MA, his sisters Angela Mazzarelli of Hopedale, MA, Mary Calarese of West Yarmouth, MA and Celia Deschler of Newington, CT, his grandsons Anthony Lucci of Providence, RI, David Lucci of Portsmouth, RI, and Peter Lucci and his wife Jennifer of East Providence, RI, and his granddaughter Lisa Masse and her husband Claude of Richmond, RI.His funeral service will be held on Saturday December 3, 2005 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Jesus Saviour Church on Broadway Vernon Ave., Newport.
