Middletown, RI - Joseph T. Twister Driscoll, 51, of Middletown, RI, died on Sunday, November 14th, with his loved ones by his side. Born in Boston, MA, on January 1, 1959, he was the son of Rose Shuman of Middletown, RI and the late Cornelius Driscoll.Mr. Driscoll served in the United States Navy for 24 years, retiring as a BMSC. Joe was an enormous fan of Harley Davidson and rode his with many friends; it was his favorite hobby. He had a great sense of humor and had a knack for telling long, winding and slightly exaggerated stories, gaining the nickname Twister. Despite his illness, Joe always maintained his upbeat personality, finding humor in everything. His greatest joy was the birth of his grandson. Besides his devoted mother and loving companion Lynn, he is survived by his beloved daughters, Tara Driscoll of Middletown, RI, and Chelsea Driscoll of Bear, DE, his grandson, Carter Joseph Driscoll of Bear, DE, his sisters Eileen Brown and her husband Ken of Bridgeport, WV and Denise Porter and her husband Chris of Middletown, RI, his nephew Bryan Mason and his niece Lainie Farence of WV and niece Caroline Porter of Middletown, RI. He also leaves behind many beloved Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2010, from 3-6pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a celebration of his life at 7-9PM, at Rustys, 44 Wave Avenue, Middletown, RI.Given Joes dedication to the Navy and for the excellent care he received at the Providence Veterans Hospital, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Disabled American Veterans Travel Office, Room 003, 830 Chalkstone Avenue Providence, RI 02909.Burial will be private.
