Joseph Victor Bibeau

Joseph Victor Bibeau, 90, of 15 Marvel Street, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Somerset, MA, died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI.He was the husband of Rita Tierney Bibeau. Born in Fall River, MA on June 14, 1918, he was the son of the late Victor S. and Marie Dube Bibeau.Vic was a graduate of Somerset High School. He enlisted in the US Navy and served for four years, mostly in the Pacific Theater. During his tours in the Pacific, he was injured in the line of duty. He was one of the first members of the Seabees a construction batallion ini the US Navy. After WWII, he began work for the Newport Naval Base, and worked as a planner and estimator for over 39 years. Mr. Bibeau was a member of the NARFE, the VFW, and the Newport Fishing Club. He enjoyed bowling and fishing.Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Anne Louise Stepka of Johnston, RI, and her husband Thomas Stepka of Johnston, RI, his brothers Norman Bibeau of Somerset, MA, Robert Bibeau of Washington, and Philip Bibeau of Winter Park, FL, and a sister Irene Gallant of Mattapoisett, MA. He was the brother of the late J. William Bibeau, Raymond Bibeau, Louise Ernst, and Jeannette Carlson. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 1 from 5-8 in the Connors Funeral Home
