Newport, - Joseph W. MacNeil, 81, of 309 Spring Street Newport, formerly of 105 Immokolee Drive, Portsmouth, RI, died Saturday, February 28, 2004 at St. Clare Home Newport, He was the husband of Catherine Prosser MacNeil. Born in Boston, MA on April 18, 1922, he was the son of the late Florence MacNeil Barnes Mr. MacNeil worked for Crompton Knowles Corporation as a Director of Marketing and Sales for thirty-four years retiring in 1987. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. Mr. MacNeil was Past President of the Dry Salters Club of New England and the American Association of Chemists Colorists. He was Past President of the Napolean Club Textile Industry A Member of Knights of Columbus Lodge # 256, Newport, RI and the Portsmouth Lions Club. He is survived by his wife Catherine Prosser MacNeil of Newport, R.I., one Daughter Paula A. Tate of Middletown, RI, one son Philip W. MacNeil of Middletown, RI, one granddaughter and one grandson. Mr. MacNeil was the brother of the late Edward Barnes. His funeral will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Route 114, Portsmouth, to be followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be Private.
