Portsmouth, - Joseph Farias III, 74, of 3255 East Main Road Portsmouth, died Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at home.He was the former husband of Shirley Henrique Sylvia. Born in Portsmouth, RI on April 2, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Frances Farias.Mr. Farias was in the United States Navy serving on the USS Midway during World War II. He was awarded the Victory World War II Medal. He was a former member of the Sakonnet Sportsman Club and the Portuguese American Club. Mr. Farias attended St. Anthonys Church and volunteered for the last 40 years at the St. Anthonys Feast at the Portuguese American Club. He enjoyed saltwater fishing all his life in the local waters.Mr. Farias became a meat cutter for the food industry having worked for the New England Poultry co. and the Stop and Shop Company. He is survived by: his son David R. Farias of Portsmouth, RI, his daughter Jo-Ann DerManouelian of Portsmouth, RI, six grandchildren and one great grandchildHe was the brother of the late Paul Farias. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at 11:00AM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Burial will be in Portsmouth Cemetery in Portsmouth, RI.
