Judith "Judy" S. (White) Brennan, 63, of N. Dudley Avenue, Middletown, passed away, peacefully Tuesday, February 05, 2013 at Newport Hospital surrounded by her family.She was the beloved wife of Robert E. Brennan, to whom she was married to for more than 33 years.Judy was the daughter of the late Richard H. and Pauline "Polly" H. (Byrnes) White.Born on August 21, 1949 in Malden, MA, Judy was raised in Stoneham, MA until 1960 when her family moved to Guantanomo Bay, Cuba for over two years, where her father was stationed as a Commander in the Navy. During the 1962 "Cuban Missile Crisis" Judy and her family were evacuated from Cuba and subsequently stationed in Newport, R.I. Judy attended Rogers High School and graduated in 1967. Her senior quote reads "A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance" and Judy truly lived by those words as her amiable demeanor emanated through to people she loved, worked with and cared for. Judy attended Colby College in Waterville, ME and graduated in 1971 with a B.A. degree in English literature.After moving back to Newport post-college she decided to use her talents for what she did best - helping people - and pursued a lengthy career as a nurse, attaining both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Nursing from Salve Regina University. Some of the institutions and organizations Judy worked passionately for during her 30 - plus -years nursing career included Newport Hospital, Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties and St. Clare Home.An avid reader, shopper and cooking enthusiast, Judy was renowned by many for baking her specialty apple pies and for her delicious taco salad. She enjoyed picnicking around Ocean Drive with her husband on sunny summer days and vacationing in Cape Cod during the Fall. For years she was a dedicated fan of the Middletown High School Basketball teams, where she followed her son's playing and coaching careers. Judy also loved to travel with two of her closest friends, Karen and Jane, most recently venturing to Branson, Missouri and Key West Florida.Besides her husband she leaves her son Raleigh A. Brennan and his fiance Meg C. Loftus of Newport, her step-daughters Lori (Brennan) Becker and her husband Scott Becker of West Hartford, CT and Christine (Brennan) Ferioli and her husband, Paul Ferioli of Greene, RI, five step-grandchildren and her sister Pamela Hightower, of Middletown.Calling hours will be held, Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m.in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
