Portsmouth, RI - Judith Neely Silvia, 65, of 9 Scotty Drive, Portsmouth, RI, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the companion of James Grimmitt of Portsmouth, RI. Born in Newport, RI on December 31, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Fanny H. Faria Neely.Ms. Silvia worked in private service for the Spencer Family. She was very active in Cookies Kids a charity for unfortunate children. She loved gardening especially her vegetable and flower gardens. Judith loved bingo and camping. Besides her companion, she is survived by her former husband Richard Chapman of Newport, RI, her daughters, Dawn M. Chapman Andrews and her husband Thomas of Coventry, RI and Dana Lynn Chapman of Middletown, RI, her grandchildren, Paul P. Chapman, Joshua C. Soares, Katelynn J. Chapman and Courtney N. Dalton, her step children, Dawn S. Dimery, and Tammy L. Dimery, her dog Jax and her dear best friends, Marilyn Banville of Tiverton, RI and Sandy Keating of Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Frederick Silvia and the grandmother of the late Steven R. Chapman. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010, from 4-7pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a prayer service at 7PM.
