Julia Frances Silvia Whitlock, 85, of 8 Calvert Street Newport, RI, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at the home of her daughter. She was the former wife of Jesse H. Whitlock. Born in Newport, RI on June 2, 1918, she was the daughter of the late John and Julia Harrington Silvia. Mrs. Whitlock was a 1936 graduate of Rogers High School. She worked at the former Perrottis Drug Store on Broadway and Equality Park. Mrs. Whitlock graduated from the Newport Secretarial School and started work for the Federal Civil Service in the Defense Surplus Sales Office, and then transferred to the US Naval War College Library. She also worked as a secretary for the City of Newport in the Water Department. Mrs. Whitlock was a parishoner of St. Josephs Church and volunteered for the Catholic Charity Drive. She was also an active member in the Democratic Womens Club as a young woman. She is survived by her daughter Sheila Tyler of Newport, RI, her grandson Gregory L. Carroll of Pasadena, CA, her granddaughter Christina Hoffman of Newton, NH, two great grandsons James L. Carroll II and Jack W. Carroll both of California, two nephews Peter Lance of Montecito, CA and Joseph Tremblay of Newport, RI and her niece Mary Lance of Corrales, NM.She was the sister of the late Albina Lance and Rita Tremblay. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2003, at 10:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway And Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
