Julia Cordeiro Hay, 86, of 398 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI, formerly of Quaker Manor, and Clearview Avenue, Portsmouth, died Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Robert F. Hay. Born in Middletown, RI on July 10, 1920, she was the daughter of the late August S. and Marie Janeiro Cordeiro.Mrs. Hay loved country music, playing bingo and also loved going to yard sales. As a young woman she enjoyed dancing. She is survived by her children Allan W. Wernik of Middletown, RI, Sandra White of Portsmouth, RI, Kathleen Hay of Cranston, RI, Romona Chaves of Middletown, RI and Roberta Hay of Fall River, MA, her sister Adeline Esleeck of Middletown, RI, her grandchildren Michael Wernik of Chicago, IL, Michelle Plisek of Bellevue, NE, Allan Wernik Jr. and Amanda Wernik of Middletown, RI, David White of Bristol, RI, Steven White of Portsmouth, RI, Lisa VanDiver of Naples, FL, Collin Heroux of Warwick, RI, Joseph Chaves of Swansea, MA, Robin Conley of Middletown, RI, Michael Chaves and Kevin Chaves of Fall River, MA, James Hay of Fall River, MA, and her great grandchildren Makayla Plisek and Matthew Plisek of Bellevue, NE, Michael White and Sydney White of Bristol, RI, Ryan VanDiver and Kent VanDiver of Naples, FL, Steven Chaves and Cody Chaves of Swansea, MA, Taryn Conley, Kendal Conley, Amber Conley and April Conley all of Middletown, RI, Nicholas Chaves and Ryan Chaves of Middletown, RI, and Tifinie and Breona Hay of Fall River, MA. She was the sister of the late John Cordeiro, Manuel Cordeiro, Mary Ridder, Florence Gomes, Christine Pires and Lena Venancio and the grandmother of the late Derek Chaves. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2006, at 11:00am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 22, 2006 from 6-8pm in the funeral home. Donations in her memory may be made to Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
