Karl O. Woodhead

Tiverton, RI - Karl O. Woodhead, 71, of Tiverton died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Charlton Memorial Hospital of Fall River, MA. He was the husband of Francine (Donnelly) Woodhead.Born August 24, 1940, in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Gertrude (Scheel) Woodhead. Karl was a 1959 graduate of Rogers High School and was a member of the ROTC team while at Rogers. After graduation he served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He transitioned to active duty and was stationed at Cherry Point, NC Marine Corps Base. While in the Marines, he married his wife in Newport on August 26, 1961. After active duty, he returned to Newport and worked at Quonset Point as an aircraft electrician. Karl attended Johnson Wales, and earned his B.S. in Computer Science, then earned his MBA from Providence College in 1978. Both degrees were earned Magna Cum Laude. He moved to East Bridgewater, MA and worked at Johnson Johnson, then accepted a position as Director of Information Systems at Codex/Motorola in Mansfield, MA. This career brought him to Arkansas and California with various executive positions. He retired in 2000 from Intercontinental Art Inc. as VP of Information Systems. They returned to Rhode Island to be near family. During his retirement he worked at NEB in Portsmouth, and enjoyed golf, and fishing, and traveling with friends.Besides his wife of 50 years, he is survived by his daughter Karen Nickerson and her husband Robert of Bridgewater, MA, his grandchildren, Alycia and Jared Nickerson, his great granddaughter Shelby Rose, as well as his sisters, Carol Cookson (Bill) of Mimbres, New Mexico, and Ann Moniz (Everett) of Portsmouth, RI, and his best buddy "Shamus" as well as several nieces and nephews, and their best friends for over 50 years, Art and Ellie Ferreira of Middletown.He was the brother of the late Charles Woodhead and Gertrude Woodhead.Calling hours will be held on, Sunday, August 19, 2012, from 4:00-8:00pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.His funeral will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012, at 11:00am in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southcoast Visiting Nurse, 502 Bedford Street, Fall River, MA 02720.
