Katherine Ann Shine

July 22, 1952 — February 16, 2024

Katherine Ann (Keefe) Shine, 71, of Middletown, Rhode Island, died at home surrounded by the love of her family on February 16, 2024. She was the wife of Daniel Shine, Jr.

Born in South Weymouth, MA on July 22, 1952, she was the daughter of the late James and Adeline (McGlynn) Keefe. Katherine grew up in Rockland and South Yarmouth, MA. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1995 with a degree in English. She balanced her education and her young family, a testament to her persistence and grace. Before completing her education, she enjoyed several years of work in the fashion world, both in Boston and NYC. During this time, she reveled in the opportunity to participate in community theater and the enjoyment of the outdoors by walking and bicycling.

Katherine and her family moved to Rochester, Minnesota where they lived for 15 years. She was a freelance writer for various publications in Minnesota. She enjoyed working at the Mayo Clinic as a "Standardized Patient", utilizing her acting experience to help the training of medical students and residents. She loved singing in the church choir, channeling her everyday singing and humming to praise God. Above all, she loved her vocation as a wife and mother.

She began her life's next chapter caring for her mother, moving back to the East Coast in 2012 and spending much of her time as a caregiver. Shortly after her mother's death, she began her own struggle with Parkinson's Disease. For several years she kept active, enjoying long walks and volunteering when possible. Most recently, she loved the experience of supporting the Volvo Ocean Race stopover at Ft. Adams in May 2018.

Her brave struggle with Parkinson's Disease meant that she had to give up many activities including exercise, writing, and singing, but it did not rob her of her natural beauty, gorgeous green eyes, scintillating smile, ready laugh, and loving heart. She showed grace, gentleness, and grit throughout.

Katherine is survived by her husband of 33 years, Daniel Shine Jr., her daughter Emily Shine-Blood and her husband Robert Blood of West Warwick, her siblings; Peter Keefe (Charles Walker) of Carlisle, PA, Daniel Keefe of South Yarmouth, MA, Maura Allen (Dean Allen) of Mechanicville, NY, and Thomas Keefe of Baldwinsville, NY, her aunt Helen Carr of South Weymouth, MA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her family is grateful to all the therapists, CNAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, and doctors who cared for Katherine over the years.
