Kitty was born in Los Angeles, attended Miss Porter?s School, and met her beloved husband Norris while at the Yale Art School. They lived at St. George?s, where he was the head of the English Department, from 1946 to 1975. She dispensed tea, toast and motherly affection to hundreds of students who still keep in touch. She was an intrepid sailor, a wonderful portrait painter and a devoted mother. She sailed across the Atlantic several times and was the only woman on the 1957 Newport to Santander Spain race aboard the 39? yacht Alphard. They retired to a series of boats and in the next 25 years their travels took them from Panama to Greenland, from Malta to British Columbia, and up the Hudson, through the French canals, and down the Mississippi. They sold the last boat in 1999 and settled back in Newport. Kitty?s portraits hang all over New England and are at Newport Hospital, The Newport Daily News, the Newport Public Library and the King House. She died at home surrounded by family and friends. We are sure she and Norris are headed for the greatest adventure yet. She is survived by her sister Polly Fleming of Los Angeles, and children Kate Hoyt Psaki and Jane Hoyt DelRoss of Newport and William B. Hoyt of Hartland Vermont, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 9, 2006, at 11:00am at St. Columba Berkeley Memorial Chapel, 55 Vaucluse Avenue, Middletown. Burial will be private. Donations in her name may be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice Services, P.O. Box 690, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
