Kathleen Kay Tiernan Kelly, 88, of 50 Trout Drive, Middletown, RI, formerly of 51 Annandale Road, Newport, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at St. Clare Home, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Michael T. Kelly.Born in Newport, RI, on July 12, 1919, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Buckley Tiernan.Mrs. Kelly was a graduate of Rogers High School. She was a secretary for Newport Schools at Callender, Coggeshall and Lenthal Schools. She was a member of the Lady Hibernians, a member of Hazards Beach for over fifty years, and a member of the Four OClock Girls at Hazards Beach. She was a volunteer at the St. Clare Home, the Newport Hospital Auxiliary, and the parent associations for the St. Philomenas School and the DeLa Salle Academy. Mrs. Kelly was also active in local politics with the Democratic Party.She is survived by her son Jay M. Kelly and his wife Jackie of Clifton, VA, her daughter Paula Bertolotti and her late husband Ernest of Cos Cob, CT , her daughter Penny Collins and her husband Phil of Sparta, NJ, and grandchildren Christy Kelly, Kerry Kelly, Amy Adorney, Sarah Trager, Michael Bertolotti, Leah Bertolotti, Jena Bertolotti, Philip Collins, Matthew Collins, Daniel Collins, Kelly Millet, and nine great grandchildren. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Friday, April 25, 2008, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.Memorial donations may be made to St. Clare Home, 309 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.
