Kathryn Ann Smith

PORTSMOUTH- Kathy Smith, 68, of Debra Drive, Portsmouth, RI, lost her battle with cancer on Friday, October 22, 2010 at her home.Born on March 2, 1942 in Lowell, MA, she was the widow of Frederick R. Smith and the daughter of the late Willard O. and Katherine Hedge Hoyle.Kathy is survived by her brother, Willard O. Hoyle, Jr. and his wife, June, of Blythewood, SC; sister-in-law, Carol Smith of Worcester, MA; three loving sons, Fred Jr. of Centreville, VA, John F. K. and his wife, Mary Ann, of Portsmouth, RI and Chris and his wife, Linda, of Chesapeake, VA; six grandchildren that she loved and adored tremendously, Ryan, Corey, James, Morgan, Katie and Ian; nieces, nephews and close friends. She was also the sister of the late Newell E. Hoyle.She most recently worked for the Preservation Society of Newport County where her co-workers were more like family to her. She enjoyed the simple things in life; spending time with her grandchildren and watching their activities, dinners and shopping days with girlfriends, massages and manicures, gardening, talking on the phone... and watching wrestling something that began while married to her late husband.Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2010 from 5-8 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 10 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, followed with a funeral procession to St. Johns Cemetery, Worcester, MA for burial.She was hoping to make it until spring when the flowers would be in bloom.
