Middletown, RI - Kenneth Andrew Zahm, 76, of Middletown, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Buffalo, NY on December 22, 1937, he was the son of the late Cyril and Wilda (Hodgson) Zahm. He was the loving husband of Mary (Westgate) Zahm. Kenneth was a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then received his Masters Degrees in both Engineering Management and Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. He worked for Raytheon for 44 years, retiring in January 2007. Ken was a gifted athlete on the Varsity teams for both lacrosse and basketball at Stevens. He continued to play basketball in adult leagues, including the Over-40 League, playing for the "Decrepits", at one time being the oldest player in the league. Ken was a volunteer for the Newport Music Festival for over 35 years, and was a dedicated patron of the performing arts. He was a passionate advocate for peace and social justice, often through groups at Channing Memorial Church. He also enjoyed reading and travelling the world with his family. Along with his wife Mary of 25 years, he is survived by his sons, Kevin Zahm and his wife Jacqueline of Middletown, RI, Brian Zahm of Wakefield, RI and his partner Liz Powers, and their mother Janet Daulton of Virginia; his stepchildren Steven Kanarian of NY and Susan Goulet of MA; as well as his sisters Valerie Ricker of Randolph, MA, and Debbie Carlson of Whitman, MA, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Roger Zahm and Karen Zahm.His funeral will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:30AM, in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, Home Care and Hospice, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
