Kevin J. Labonte

Middletown, RI - Kevin J LaBonte, 68, Middletown, RI, died on his birthday, Friday, February 18, 2011 peacefully in his sleep. Born in Newport, RI on February 18, 1943, he was the son of the late Alphonse J. and Kathrine F. OConner LaBonte.He is survived by his loving daughter Melissa Bessette and her husband Rick of Portsmouth, RI, his sons Kevin J LaBonte Jr., Albert LaBonte and Robert LaBonte all of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers Brian LaBonte of Newport, RI, and Michael LaBonte of Middletown, RI, and nine grandchildren. He had a special bond and closeness with his granddaughter Emma Luck, who will miss him deeply. Kevin was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and Reserves in the 1960s. Most of his career was working in the automotive industry, for local dealerships. Kevin had a remarkable ability to be silly, out-going, and extremely tolerant with a gentle nature. Kevin also loved animals, had several ferrets and enjoyed visiting the Potter League. Many lazy afternoons he spent with his daughter and her children whom he loved. He is forever loved, never forgotten, and always known as Gumpy.Calling hours are omitted.Burial with military honors will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011, at 10:00AM, in Newport Memorial Park, Vaulcuse and Howland Ave. Middletown, RI.Donations in his memory may be made to Robert Potter League for Animals PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
