It is with deep sorrow and profound remembrance that we celebrate the life of Lawrence "Larry" G. Cook, 77, of Portsmouth, RI, who died on April 17, 2025. He was the husband of Elaine (Farias) Cook.

Born in Unity, ME, he was the son of the late George and Lorraine (Swazey) Cook.

A retired firefighter of over 30 years with the Portsmouth Fire Department, Larry dedicated his life to the safety and protection of his community. His commitment to service extended beyond his duty as a firefighter; he proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Larry's unwavering commitment to protecting others was evident in all he did; he was a proud member of the Protectors of the Children, a charitable motorcycle organization dedicated to safeguarding children in need across eighteen countries. Additionally, he advocated for the rights of POW/MIA service members and veterans as a member of the Rolling Thunder Organization.

In his leisure, Larry enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, from tending to his landscaping business, "Grampy and Me," alongside his grandson, to embarking on thrilling road trips on his motorcycle, exploring the scenic highways of the country. He particularly cherished visiting family in Maine and the Berkshires, moments that enriched his life and drew him closer to his loved ones.

Larry is survived by his wife, Elaine, his son; Dennis (Maria) Dunlea Jr., of Portsmouth, his sisters; Doreen Gerson, Colleen McDonough, grandchildren; Jason (Laura) Dunlea and their 5 children, Derek (Tess) Dunlea and their 3 children, Mailie Amaral, Rickie (Ashley) Amaral and their 2 children, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy Dunlea, and his brothers, Gerald Cook and David Cook.

Larry's warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed but forever cherished. May he rest in peace, knowing he has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who loved him.
