Portsmouth, RI - Laura Medeiros Medeiros, 87, of 33 Freeborn Street, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, September 10, 2009 at St. Clare Home, Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late John J. Medeiros. Born in Fall River, MA on August 23, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Serafina Arrujo Medeiros.Mrs. Medeiros worked as a seamstress for 14 years in various shops in Fall River. She also worked as a cook at Portsmouth High School for 4 years. Laura was a communicant of St. Anthonys Church, where she was a member of the choir. She enjoyed singing and baking cookies and brownies and bringing them to her friends. She is survived by her son John J. Medeiros of Middletown, RI, her daughter Carolyn Figerie of Portsmouth, RI, her brother Raymond Medeiros of Tiverton, RI, her sister Jean Galego of Fall River, MA, her grandchildren Cathy Figerie, John J. Medeiros and Elizabeth Medeiros all of Middletown, RI and her great grandson Andrew Kalwak.She was the sister of the late Joseph Medeiros, Gabriel Medeiros and Mary Medeiros. Her funeral will be held on Monday, September 14, 2009, at 9:00am, from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in Portsmouth Cemetery in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2009, from 3-7, in the funeral home.Donations in her memory may be made to St. Clare Home, 309 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.
