Middletown, RI - Lawrence J. The Glassman Welch, 55, of 36 Harvest Road, Middletown, RI, died Sunday, March 1, 2009 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous and heroic battle with cancer.Larry leaves his wife and companion of 35 years, Barbara Morris Welch. Born in Lakewood, NJ on June 5, 1953, he was the son of James Tucker and the late Ruth Johnson Tucker.Larry graduated from Middletown High School in 1971. He pursued a career in auto-body and a few years later left to learn the trade of a glazer. He was a devoted and loyal employee of Newport Plate and Mirror Glass, owned by Ray Gallison, since the early 1970s. Larry enjoyed taking pride in everything he did, from landscaping to mirror hanging. Besides his wife Barbara and his father James and his wife Joan, he is survived by his daughters Patti Potter Clarke of Newport, RI and Mimi jPotter Capps and her husband Jeffrey Paul of Rocky Mount, NC, his granddaughters Kira Lynn Clarke of Newport, RI and Cheyenne Nicole Capps of Rocky Mount, NC, his godson Edward J. Welch, his brothers, Charles Welch of Bristol, RI, Richard Welch, Kevin Welch, Eugene Welch and Douglas Tucker all of Middletown, RI, his sister Marion Welch of Middletown, RI and over thirty nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.He was the brother of the late Steven R. Welch and Christopher G. Tucker. His funeral will be held on Friday, March 6, 2009, at 10:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 in the funeral home.
