Portsmouth, RI ? Leah Jaramillo Callahan, 70, of 35 Corys Court, Portsmouth, died Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Portsmouth, RI. She was the wife of John J. Jack Callahan. Born in Antonito, CO on December 11, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Marcus and Margaret Galvez Jaramillo. Mrs. Callahan was a Secretary with Portsmouth School Department for over twenty-four years retiring in 1999. Mrs. Callahan was a comunicant of St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth, RI. Leah was a Past President of the Portsmouth Democratic Womens Club of Portsmouth and was a former Adult Leader in the Cub Scouts of America serving as Cubmaster. She also volunteered in the Portsmouth Schools as a teachers aid. Mrs. Callahan was a very active member of the Democratic process of America in that she exercised her beliefs in many ways and had worked for the Democratic Party both locally and State wide as well as working at the election polls for many years. Besides her husband of 49 years she is survived by two sons John J. Callahan III of Sewell, NJ and Michael P. Callahan of Washington, DC, two brother Marcus Jaramillo of Denver, CO and Eppie Jaramillo of Denver, CO, her sister Sylvia Harold of Colorado Springs, CO, and two grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday February 16, 2005, at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Burial will be in Portsmouth Cemetery, Portsmouth. Donations may be made in her memory to the Portsmouth Free Public Library Freeborn Street Portsmouth, RI.
