Lena Vonvillas

Lena Nikki DiMento VonVillas, 100, of Middletown, passed away Friday, September 23, 2011 in the Newport Hospital.She was the wife of the late George A. VonVillas.Born in Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Rose Labello DiMento.Mrs. VonVillas began working as a bookkeeper for the Syracuse Fruit Co. She moved to Newport in the early 1940s after marrying her husband George. She worked for Raytheon in accounts receivables for several years. Lena enjoyed her many trips shopping and eating out with her daughters and granddaughters. She recently celebrated her 100 birthday at the Grand Island Health Care Center in Middletown surrounded by her family and friends and staff. She continued her celebration at Newport Grand where she loved to play the slots. She was a communicant of St. Augustins Church.She leaves her daughter Deborah A. Watkins and her husband Robert of Newport. She also leaves her four granddaughters Angela Johnson and her husband Robert, Nicole Robinson and Matthew Powell, Stephanie Soto and Lindsay Watkins as well as her great granddaughters Hailey Robinson, Mia Finn and Alana Finn. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.Lena was the sister of the late Constance, James, Joseph and Josephine.She was the mother of the late Martha R. Soto and mother in law of the late Paul SotoFuneral Services will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 11:00am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home Tuesday morning from 9 - 11am.Burial will take place in St. Marys Churchyard, Portsmouth.Because of Lenas love for animals, donations can be made in her memory to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
