PORTSMOUTH, RI - Leo John Gracik, 69, of 79 Alan Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Jamestown for 30 years, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2005, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Connie V. Corriea Mathias Gracik of Portsmouth, RI and the late Marilyn L. Warner Gracik. Born in Lackawana, PA on August 31, 1935, he was the son of the late Leo J. and Florence Savukas Gracik. Leo served in the United States Navy for four years, during peacetime. He was a Jamestown Police Officer. Then he went on to work for the Division of Drug Control and retired after 27 years as Deputy Chief of the Division of Drug Control, in the Department of Health, for the State of Rhode Island. Leo was a member of the Lion?s Club serving as their Past District Governer in district 42 and he was also Past President of the Lion?s Club Children of Cancer Fund. Leo was also a Past President of I.N.E.O.A. International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association. Besides his wife he is survived by his children Leo J. Gracik III and MaryAnn L. Hutchins both of North Kingstown, RI, Ruth L. Anderson of Exeter, RI, Betty E. Parkinson of Ft. Myers, FL, Stephen J. Mathias of Newport, RI, Paul A. Mathias of Lincoln, RI, and Debra A. Parsonage of Portsmouth, RI, his siblings Joseph Gracik of Peckville, PA, Ann Marie Pemantell of Jamestown, RI, and Nancy Simons of Oliphant, PA, and twenty grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2005, at 11:30AM in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private.
