Leon Vaughan Hagopian

February 28, 1920 — May 26, 2003

Middletown, - Leon Vaughan Hagopian, 83, of 303 Valley Road Middletown, formerly of 45 Powell Avenue, Newport, died Monday, May 26, 2003 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI. He was the husband of Helen Danakas Hagopian. Born in Boston, MA in 1920, he was the son of Serop Hagopian and Anna Terzian Hagopian. Mr. Hagopian as a young man worked in the former Clays Men store on Broadway and then at Met Life Insurance Company in Middletown as an office manager until his retirement in 1991. As a boy he was an Eagle Scout and he became a member of the advance committee for Newport Council of Eagle Scouts. A Naval veteran of WWII, Mr. Hagopian was a former member of the Masonic Over Seas Lodge and Palestine Temple and a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church. He is survived by his wife Helen Hagopian of Middletown, RI, his daughter A. Elaine Brown of Portsmouth, RI, two grandsons, one great granddaughter and two great grandsons.He was the brother of the late Margaret Yorganjian. His funeral will be held Friday, May 30, 2003 at 10:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass at 11:00am in St. Spyridons Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames Street, Newport. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Portsmouth. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Spyridons Greek Orthodox Church, Endowment Fund, 390 Thames Street, Newport, RI 02840.
