Middletown, RI - Leonard John Vandermyde, 74, of Willow Avenue Middletown, died Monday, January 24, 2005 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.He was the husband of Beverly Barry Vandermyde. They had been married for 54 years. Born in Chicago, IL, on April 25, 1930, he was the son of the late John and Ruth Johnson Vandermyde. Mr. Vandermyde graduated from Holland High School, Holland, MI in 1948, then served in the United States Navy. He was a Tool and Die Maker for Garreau Inc., a Marine Mechanic at Nortons Shipyard and CNC Manager at Dennis Machine in Bristol from which he retired in 1992. He then became self-employed. Mr. Vandermyde was one of the Founding Fathers of the Newport County Youth Hockey League, he was a member of the Newport County Radio Club W1JCF , the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the United Baptist Church of Newport and the R.I.H.O.A. where he was a hockey offical for many years. Lenny was an avid Motorcyclist, enjoyed Hockey, NASCAR Racing, Boating, Model Railroading and Classical Music. Besides his wife of 54 years he is survived by three daughters Gail Fitzpatrick of Wickford, RI, Terri Martland of Newport, RI and Karen Vandermyde of Bristol, RI, his son David Vandermyde of Newport, RI, four grandchildren, his brother John Vandermyde and his sister Jane Vruggink both of Zeeland, MI and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Robert Vandermyde and the grandfather of the late Katelyn Vandermyde. His funeral will be held on Friday, January 28, 2005, at 10:00 AM in Hambly Funeral Home Brick House, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery, Middletown.
