Leroy McIntyre Jr., 72, of Newport died Friday, January 22, 2016 at Newport Hospital after a brief illness.He was born December 21, 1943, in Anmoore, WV, the son of the late Leroy and Sylvia (Kelly) McIntyre. Mr. McIntyre was a US Navy veteran. He was a gunners mate who proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga. While serving aboard the USS Saratoga, they were anchored off the coast of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Mr. McIntyre then began a career as an auto mechanic for many years in Newport, RI. He was also a cab driver and then briefly a tow truck driving in Laconia, NH.In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Stephen McIntyre.He is survived by his children, Charles McIntyre, Jeffrey Mary McIntyre, Kevin McIntyre, Rosemary Paul Kosinski and Melissa Chris Vieira.He is also survived by his brothers, Ken Linda McIntyre, Dan Vicky McIntyre, James McIntyre, Charles Peggy McIntyre, and his sisters, Starlett Nick Luna, Carolyn Philips and Bobbie Russell Liles.Mr. McIntyre was a friend to all who knew him.The family graciously thanks the Doctors and Nurses of Newport Hospital ICU and Home and Hospice Care of RI for their care during his last days.A Funeral with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 10:30am at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.
