Lillian Elizabeth Castle

Wakefield, RI - Lillian Elizabeth (Friars) Castle, 75, of Wakefield, died Friday, May 17, 2013 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center Providence, RI. She was the wife of Walter F. Castle. Born in Bloomfield, New Brunswick, Canada on June 2, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Myrtle (Nason) Friars. Mrs. Castle was a registered nurse for 20 years at Newport Hospital. After raising her children, she went back to school in her 40's to obtain her nursing degree, finishing top in her class and second on the state board exam. She loved to travel all over the country with her husband and was particularly fond of the penny slots at Foxwoods. She will be missed by all who knew her. Besides her husband of 57 years, she is survived by her children, Frank Castle of Pennsylvania, Doug Castle and his wife, Joyce, of Fall River, MA, Walter Castle, Jr. of Wakefield, RI, and Sherry Stanton and her husband, Robert, of Portsmouth, RI, her brother Pearson Friars and her sisters Sharon Hopey and Isabel Teed all of Canada, and five grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Dave Castle and the sister of the late Charles Friars and Marilyn Snow. A private funeral ceremony was held for her Tuesday, May 21, 2013, and she was laid to rest at the Trinity Cemetery, East Main Road, Portsmouth.Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
