Lillian Ann McGarry Lonergan, 92, entered the Arms of God on December 7, 2007 and joins her late husband ?Ed? in eternal life. She was the loving mother of Edmund Lei Lonergan, Garry Lonergan, Sr. Edna Lonergan, O.S.F., Mary Lonergan, Tom Dolores Lonergan, Rosemary Don Wenzel and Shaun Kathy Lonergan. Also loved by 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and by her many friends.Lillian was born in Apponaug, RI in 1915. She lived with her family in Providence, RI and later moved to Quincy, MA where she met her husband, Edmund. Married in 1936, she raised seven children in the Boston area. During World War II, she made scapulars and rosaries for the troops overseas. In 1963 Lillian, Edmund and the younger members of their family moved to Newport County where she lived until 2002. Her husband, Edmund, was an Electronics Engineer at the Newport Naval War College. During her years in Newport County, she was active in both St. Lucy?s Church where she played the organ at weekday Mass and at Jesus Saviour Church where she taught catechism classes. Lillian was a devoted member of the Third Order of Carmelites. After her husband?s death in 1987, Lillian lived in Newport County until she moved to Milwaukee in 2002 to be near to her two daughters. While in Milwaukee, she was a volunteer at the Saint Ann Center for Intergenerational Care where she knitted baby clothes for sale in the gift shop and played piano to entertain the staff and patients. Lillian spent her last few months as a patient at Saint Ann?s where she passed away peacefully on December 7. She loved being a homemaker which gave expression to her many gifts. She loved seeing birds and flowers, crocheting, teaching children to play the piano and being a Mom. But, most of all, Lillian loved God?s words of ?what you do for the least of them, you do for me? in her heart every day with her time and energy to anyone in need.
