Lillie (White) Dias, 96, of Middletown died Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center in Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Harry Dias.Mrs. Dias was born June 2, 1919 in New York, NY, the daughter of the late Harry J. and Lillie H. (Cobb) White. Lillie went to various schools and graduated from High School in New York. She attended Union Baptist Church and was saved at an early age when she gave her life to Jesus. Lille worked at the Bureau of Engraving in Washington, DC for several years. She met and married Harry M. Dias in Bremerton, Washington. Lillie began her life as a Navy wife and shortly thereafter she and her family moved to Guantanamo Bay Cuba. While she was there she worked in the church as a Sunday school teacher. Upon returning to the USA Dad received orders for the Naval Receiving Station in Brooklyn, NY and her daughter attended school there. After staying in NY for two years Dad received orders for NETC in Newport, RI, where he worked as a storekeeper on various ships. As Dad was ending his naval career she started working at the Navy exchange and worked there until she retired. She supported Dad's music career in the military and civilian life. Upon Dad's retirement here in Middletown, RI she became very active in the Maple Avenue Baptist Church. She served as a teacher for Sunday school vacation bible school head of the missionary society. She taught for many years at HBC (Hillside Baptist Church) in various capacities until she couldn't be active at her church. But she continued to study the Word of God daily and corresponded with several missionaries in the USA and abroad. She loved raising plants and flowers meeting new people and to increase her knowledge of civic matters. She leaves behind a daughter Gregoria B. Dias of Middletown, RI, a host of cousins, two nephews Raymond M. Dias of Randolph MA and James D. Ross of Brockton, MA and many church family and friends.She will be missed by many and her memory will live on in our hearts forever. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016, from 10-11am, in Hillside Bible Church, 229 Maple Avenue, Newport, with her service to follow at 11.Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, Howland Avenue, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association, 1 State Street, Suite 200, Providence, RI 02908.
