Saunderstown, RI - Lillie Pearl Baker, 50, of 5 Calypso Drive, Saunderstown, RI, was pronounced dead on Tuesday, August 30, 2011.Born in Utica, NY on September 19, 1960, she was the daughter of Maggie M. Brunson Baker of Newport, RI and the late Willie C. Baker.Lillie served in the United States Navy for about 20 years and reached the rank of E5. She was very creative, inventive and poetic. Lillie loved animals and could not ignore any animal needing help. She loved music, was part of a band and sang in various clubs and venues. Shortly before her passing, she had begun to set up a music room in her home. She has worked as a volunteer candy striper in a hospital and a nurses aide in a nursing home; and, supported children who were going thru some form of hardship. She was Catholic and God was a part of everything she did. Lillie made friends very easily and her smile was the thing people remembered most.Besides her mother, she is survived by her brothers Clarence E. Baker of Sweden Europe and James E. Baker of Jacksonville, FL and a sister Jessie P. Baker-Calder of Rochester, NY. She, also, is survived by uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded by her father Willie C. Baker and a sister Alberta Kinard.Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011, from 10-11AMin the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. Funeral services will follow, immediately, at 11:00 am, at the funeral home. Burial, with Military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Exeter.
