Linda R. Hilliard, 79, of Middletown, RI, formerly of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away at home on December 13, 2024, with her family by her side. She was the wife of Edward J. Hilliard, Jr., for 42 years.
Born in Washington, DC, she was the only child born to the late Joseph and Edith (Morell) Reynolds.
Linda was a woman of many talents and passions. She dedicated her early years to serving in the US Naval Reserves during Vietnam Era in the Nurse Corps, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Linda's commitment to caring for others extended throughout her life, particularly as a pediatric nurse practitioner and registered nurse at Newport Hospital from 1977 to 1981. Her compassionate spirit and nurturing nature were evident in all she did, whether in scrubs or in the vibrant world of quilting.
In the years that followed, Linda became a beloved figure in the sewing community. As a professional quilter and owner of Quilt Artisan in Newport and Middletown, RI, she enriched the lives of many with her artistry and passion for fabric. Her creations told stories, celebrated moments, and provided warmth-a true reflection of Linda's generous heart.
A passionate advocate for animal welfare, Linda's love for animals was as boundless as her compassion for people. As the owner of Paws Unlimited, she provided a safe haven for our furry friends, showcasing her deep commitment to animal care.
Linda will be lovingly remembered by her husband Edward, and his children Nancy Hilliard, Edward J. Hilliard, III, and Jennifer Staub. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and creativity that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
