DEERFIELD BEACH, FL, - Lloyd Thomas Northup, III, of Deerfield Beach, FL, died unexpectedly in Stuart, FL, on Sunday, July 17, 2011. Born in Newport, RI on April 13, 1963, he was the beloved husband of Kristen Swafford Northup and the son of Rose Laranjo and Lloyd T. Northup Jr. of Newport, RI and Hillsboro Beach, FL.Lloyd was a 1981 graduate of Rogers High School. While in Newport he owned Newport Custom Carpentry, which he moved to Florida in 1992. He was currently the construction manager for the Howard Torn Construction Company. Lloyd was a licensed general contractor in FL and RI, with LEED Accreditation. He also held a FL realtors license. In addition, he designed and built custom equipment, often prototypes, for the many sports he was passionate about: kite boarding, paddle boarding, water boarding, surfing and snow boarding. He was also an avid fisherman and boater. Snowboard Magazine credited Lloyd as one of the first snowboard designers and manufacturers in the country. He was an early snowboard competitive racer. Lloyd was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Deerfield Beach, FL. In addition to his wife and parents, Lloyd leaves his sister, Rose Hehl and her husband Frank of Middletown; their children, Robert Burns Wife Melissa, children Devin and Ryan, Patrick Burns and Amanda Hehl, and sister Anne Burns and her husband Patrick; their children, Chelsea, Madison and Connor Burns, all of Portsmouth. He was the son-in-law of Barbara and Jerry Luka and brother-in-law of Karen and Steven Luka all of Elmhurst, IL. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2011, from 5-8 in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. His funeral will be held on Monday, July 25, 2011, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Jesus Savior Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.A paddle out memorial service organized and attended by a large contingency of Lloyds water sporting friends was held in the ocean off Hillsboro Beach on Wednesday. A visitation was held on Thursday at All Faith Chapel in Deerfield Beach.
