Lofton Elmer Clark, Jr. ("Lee", "L.E."), 83, of Stage Coach Rd., Portsmouth, RI, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday April 23, 2013. He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 65 years, Mary Clark.Born in Moss Point, Mississippi on October 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Lofton Elmer and Loretta (Wells) Clark of Forts Lake, MS. He moved to RI in 1964 and was employed by Raytheon. He was the Manager of Raytheon Service Company in Portsmouth at the time of his retirement in 1989. He and Mary owned Excelsior Christian Book Store for 20 years. Mr. Clark was a Ham Radio operator for many years. He had a love for electronics and was the sound and light man for the youth Christian Music Group "The Good News Kids." He enjoyed photography, his Gold Wing Honda motorcycle, and fishing at Melville Pond. In his earlier years, Mr. Clark loved water skiing, bowling and playing basketball and baseball with his sons. After retirement he took up golf and was a member of Green Valley Country Club. He played in the senior leagues and the Raytheon Golf League. Mr. Clark has been a member of Middletown Baptist Church for nearly 50 years.Besides his wife, Mary, Mr. Clark is survived by three children, Kay Campbell and husband Gary, Portsmouth, RI; Sandra Bolcar Smith and husband Ken, Fort Myers, FL; and Douglas Clark and wife, Susan, Newport, RI. Son, Jeffery Lee Clark, predeceased Mr. Clark. Other survivors are a sister, Betty Joyce Rodgers, of Forts Lake, MS; Grandchildren: Christopher Bolcar, Clark Campbell, Nicole Campbell Lavigne, Erin Clark, and Patricia Clark; Great-Grandchildren: Emma Claire Campbell, Liam Lavigne, and Christopher Bolcar, Jr., and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Clark was predeceased in death by his parents, Lofton and Loretta Clark, his sister Juanita Vining, and son-in-law Steven Bolcar.Visiting hours will be held Friday April 26, 2013 from 5 to 8 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway Newport, RI. A celebration of life service will be held at Middletown Baptist Church, 1818 West Main Road on Saturday April 27, 2013 at 10 am.
