Portsmouth, RI - Lorna Donovan Kirkpatrick Forgit, 65, of 128 Colonel Christopher Green Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at Sunrise Of Weston, Weston, MA. She was the wife of Roy Forgit of Portsmouth, RI and the late Lt. Col. Roy Spencer Kirkpatrick. Born in Rochester, NH on July 22, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Ann Donovan and William Bohan and adopted daughter of the late Jeremiah Herbert Donovan.Lorna grew up in Somersworth, NH. She spent almost every summer of her life in Wells Beach, ME. She was a 1960 graduate of Somersworth High and a 1964 graduate of the University of New Hampshire in Durham. Lorna received a Masters in Education from Boston College in Special Education. She taught in the Boston area for several years, before moving to Fort Stanton, New Mexico where she taught special needs children at a state hospital. Lorna married Lt. Col. Roy Spencer Kirkpatrick in 1970 and lived in several different states including Alabama, North Carolina and Texas until moving to Portsmouth, RI in 1974. She taught special needs children at the James L. Maher Center and worked as a special education teacher at Tiverton High School until retiring in 2004 as chairperson of the department. In 2005 she married her longtime friend Roy Forgit. Lorna was a selfless and devoted daughter, sister, mother, wife and friend. A gracious hostess who loved surrounding herself with friends and family. She loved to go out to hear live music and dance. Lorna spent her summers at the beach searching for sanddollars, seaglass and photographing her family. She loved her alma mater, the University of New Hampshire and regularly attended football games and other events. Lorna loved her work with children and was a lifelong advocate for children with disabilities. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughters Jennifer Kirkpatrick King and her husband Brian of Roslindale, MA and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick Mosier and her husband Jonathan of Montclair, VA, her brother James Michael Donovan and his wife Eleanor of St. Johnsbury, VT and her grandchildren, Annabelle Mosier and Cecelia Mosier of Montclair, VA and Owen King of Roslindale, MA. Her funeral will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008, at 11:00 am in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Marys Churchyard in Portsmouth. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2008, from 4-7pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
