Lorraine Susan Burns, 88, a resident of Middletown, RI, since 1954, passed away on June 28, 2024. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Burns, Jr., for 68 years.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Rose (Correira) Nunes.
Lorraine's kind heart knew no bounds when it came to caring for her family. She put them first above everything, supporting her children while supporting her husband's career. Whatever she could do, she would, which led her to working with the Middletown Public School Department serving hot lunch, or working as a housekeeper, while still ensuring her children woke up to breakfast and neatly folded laundry every day. She really took care of it all, and with a smile. She was always their for her children with any issues, whether about school, relationships, or everyday life stressors. Her spirit of selflessness shines through in every tale shared by those touched by her generosity.
A gentle soul and an advocate for creatures big and small, she loved her beagles, and took great joy in tending to her garden, finding peace in the simple rhythm of nature. Her unwavering faith in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church provided her with strength and guidance, and acted as her rock.
Lorraine is survived by her sons; Bruce Burns and wife Sandy, of Middletown, Brian Burns, of Middletown, and her grandson; Alexander Joseph Burns, of Leeds, MA.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lorraine is preceded in death by her siblings, Gabriel Nunes, and Mary Woods.
