Pomfret Center, CT - Lorraine J. Almeida Raposa, 58, of 785 Wrights Crossing Pomfret Center, CT, formerly of 180 Spring Hill Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at home.She was the wife of Richard Raposa. Born in Fall River, MA on June 5, 1945, she was the daughter of Rose Lima Almeida of Portsmouth, RI and the late John J. Almeida.Mrs. Raposa worked for 22 years as a Medical Secretary at the Newport Hospital untill 1987, she then worked at Salve Regina University as an Administrative Secretary to the Campus Ministry Office until retiring in 2002. She was a former communicant of St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth. Since moving to Pomfret, CT, Mrs. Raposa started the Red Hat Society and held the office of Queen Mother, she also had received her Real Estate License. She enjoyed looking for nice antiques to decorate her home and especially spending time with her family.Besides her husband and mother she is survived by her son R. Michael Raposa of Plantsville, CT, a daughter Lisa Andrews of Pomfret Center, CT, three brothers Raymond Almeida of _Centerville, VA, Phillip J. Almeida of Arlington, VA, and John M. Almeida of Coventry, RI, two sisters Evelyn Souza of Portsmouth, RI, and Eleene Campbell of Alexandria, VA, and six grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Christa Jean Raposa.Her funeral will be held on Monday, March 1, 2004, at 9:00 AM from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, RI.
