Louise Catherine Ferreira

Louise C. (Craig) Ferreira 91, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 in the Grand Island Health Care Center, Middletown. She was the wife of the late Manuel J. Ferreira.Born in East Providence, she was the daughter of the late Alexander G. and Louise C. (Silva) Craig.Louise attended Assumption Junior High School and went on to graduate from St. Xavier's High School after her family moved to Newport in 1944. She graduated from the former Milgrim Secretarial School in Newport. Upon completion, she started working on the Newport Navy Base in the supply depot as a clerk/typist. In 1973, she began working as a secretary at NUSC in the Weapons Technology Division, retiring in 1986. Louise was an accomplished roller skater winning several competitions, and along with Manny taught many to roller skate. She was a member of Jesus Saviour Church and their Ladies Sodality; and a member of the Middletown Senior Center. Louise enjoyed Bingo and was a lifetime Boston Red Sox Fan.She leaves a brother Kenneth J. Craig and his wife Joyce of Vestal, NY. She also leaves her nieces Michele J. Thorton and Gail J. Kenyon and nephew Kenneth M. Craig. Louise was the great aunt of Linsay Thorton, Kelly Kenyon, Haley Kenyon and Nolan Kenyon.She was the mother of the late Louise Ferreira, and sister of the late Alexander G. Craig Jr. and Marilyn Craig.Calling hours will be held, Friday, January 2, 2015 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2014 at 8:00am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway at Vernon Avenue, Newport.Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.Donations in her memory may be made to Jesus Saviour Church, 1 Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
