SOLOMONS ISLAND, MD - Louise M. Libby, 98, of Solomons Nursing Home, Solomons Island, MD, formerly of Newport, Rhode Island and Palm Beach, Florida, and Highlands County, Florida passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at the nursing home.Born in Newport, RI on December 12, 1912, she was the wife of the late Joseph Reed Libby, of Newport, who passed away January 20, 1955, and the daughter of the late Thomas Joseph and Louise Spielman Murphy. Her daughter Ellen Libby McConnell, Surfside Beach, SC died on January 5, 2011 of cancer. Ellen was survived by her husband Thomas, five children and seven grandchildren.Mrs. Libby was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport, Smith College in North Hampton, MA and the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston, MA. She was President of the Forever Young Club in Boynton Beach, FL, a member of the Womens Guild at St. Marks Catholic Church, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Avon Park, Florida, and a member of Smith College Alumnae Association. She is survived by her children, Joseph Reed Libby and his wife Patricia of Fairfax, VA, Thomas G. Libby and his wife Dolores of Avon Park, FL, Mary E. Corley and her husband Paul of Murfreesboro, TN, and Loretta S. Joy and her husband Arnold of Hollywood, MD, twenty five grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brothers Louis, Leonard, William, and Edward MurphyCalling hours will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011, from 8:30-9:30am, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held following her visitation hours at 10:00AM, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport, RI.Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Activity Center, Patuxent Wing, Solomons Nursing center, PO Box 1509, 13325 Dowell Road, Solomons, MD 20688-1509.
