Lucille Esther Morse Standish Middletown, RI - Lucille Esther Standish, 83, of Middletown, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Forest Farm Health Care Center Middletown, RI. She was the wife of Commander John C. ?Myles? Standish, CDR, USN Retired. Born in Whitman, MA on August 20, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Amy Ramsdell Morse. Mrs. Standish was a 1939 graduate of Whitman Massachusetts High School and the Chandler School for Women in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1943 Mrs. Standish married Ensign Standish and they traveled considerably, spending many years along with their children living in Navy areas in the United States. She became a resident of Middletown, Rhode Island in 1963 and became an active member of the United Congregational Church in Middletown serving as chairman of the Hospitality Committee, member of the Chancel Choir and the Wedding Coordinator. A volunteer for many years for Meals on Wheels, on the Board of Directors for Townsend Aid for the Aged, and a member of P.E.O., a charitable women?s organization, active in various officer?s wives activities. She was a former Newport Navy Chorister, a member of the Newport Art Festival and a former Women?s Division Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Newport Art Museum. She is survived by husband John C. ?Myles? Standish of Middletown, RI, a son Steven Harold Standish of Charlestown, RI. And a daughter Elaine Lucille Jolley of Middletown, Rhode Island, five grandchildren, J.C., Myles, Nathan, Derek, and Jill Courtney Standish. She was the mother of the late Myles Alan Standish. A celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date for the United Congregation Church. Burial will be private.
