Newport, RI ? Lucy Maria Silva Rodrigues, 72, of 86 Pope Street, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Vincent Rodrigues. Born in Fayal, the Azores, on June 15, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Jezuina Rodrigues Silva. Mrs. Rodrigues moved to the United States in 1959 at the age of 25. She began work as a cook at St. Georges School. Later she began work as a housekeeper and cook for the Cushing Estate. More recently she worked as a cook and nanny for other estates in Newport. Lucy was a member of Jesus Saviour church and a member of the Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts over the years. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth R. Morris of Newport, RI, David Rodrigues and his wife Eleonor of West Palm Beach, FL, and Tony Rodrigues and his wife Dawn of Massapequa, NY; her brothers Americo Silva of Providence, RI, and Mario Silva of Middletown, RI; her sisters Theresa Rodrigues of Middletown, RI and Maria Ferreira of Newport, RI and her grandchildren, Amber Morris, Christy Rodrigues, Ashley Rodrigues, Brandon Rodrigues and Antonio Rodrigues. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2006, at 9:30 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Friday, December 22, 2006, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.
