Lydia Davis, born May 27, 1951 in Faial, Azores to Angelina, (Soito) and Antonio Souto, passed peacefully surrounded by her family at home after a 5-month long battle to cancer on March 27, 2016.She was employed by Lifespan as a Client Service Specialist and worked there for 41 years. She also continued returning to her first employers at the Water's Edge embellishing in her creative talents with flowers. Lydia most enjoyed being outside in her gardens surrounded by her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and tended to them as if they were each a delicate flower in her garden of love.Lydia is preceded in death by her Parents Antonio and Angelina Souto, her father in law, Collie Davis, her brother Eduardo Souto, Joseph Davis, her brother in law James Davis, and Sister in law Shelley Davis.She is survived by her loving children Christine Davis of Portsmouth, Brian Davis and wife Melissa of Middletown, Michelle Davis of Middletown, grandchildren Kayla Davis, Jayvon Davis, Colin Davis, Tyler Davis, and Bailey Davis.She leaves behind her Mother in law Catherine Davis of Palm Bay Fl., her sister Maria Pereira and husband Antonio of Virginia, Antonio Do Souto and wife Delfina of Bristol RI, Hilda Santo and Husband Frank of Middletown, Helena Gaston and husband Richard of Middletown, Mario Souto and wife Sue of Middletown, and Roger Souto and wife Heather of Newport, Sister in law, Margaret Garcia of Arizona, brother in law, Robert Davis and wife Liz of Portsmouth, brother in law, Richard Davis and Susan of Rockledge Fl. And her soul sister, Joyce Cooper and husband Reggie of Portsmouth. And many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Her funeral will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 9am from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway, Newport, RI.Burial will be held in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown, RI.In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to St Vincent de Paul, c/o Jesus Saviour Church, 1 Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
