Lyle John Smith

Lyle J. Smith, 49, of Laura Road, Middletown, RI, died on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at RI Hospital in Providence as the result of a motorcycle accident.Born in Newport, RI on December 23, 1963, he was the son of Grace (Ogilvie) Smith of Portsmouth, RI and the late John Lyle Smith, and the step-son of Jackie Smith.Lyle was a 1982 graduate of Portsmouth High School. A Master Diver, he was owner and operator of Coastal Diving Services LLC.In addition to his mother and step-mother, he is survived by his daughter, Chelsea Smith of Middletown, RI; his son, Lyle Dennis Smith of Middletown, RI; his daughter, Christina Jones of Newport, RI; his grandchildren, Dylan Diomandes and Mychal Gillooly; his siblings, Laurie Smith of Portsmouth, RI, Cindy Buck and her husband Richard of Cranston, RI, Wayne Smith and his wife Rebecca of Barrington, RI, Delores Socall of Portsmouth, RI, and Carrie McBee of Uhrichsville, OH; his aunt, Glenna Austin; his cousins, Jenny Austin, Larry Austin, Jr., Kerry Austin and Steven Austin; his nieces and nephews, Richard Buck, Jr., Heidi Durrand, Jason Smith, Amanda Smith, Nichole Smith, Joseph Linhares, Richard McBee, Ryan McBee, and Donald Parks; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Brandon Medina, Jacob Medina, Josh, Carter, Wyatt and Sophia Smith, Logan Buck and Evan Durrand; and his former wife, Colleen Smith.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 from 5-8 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 10 am in the funeral home.Burial will be private.In lieu of flowers, donations in Lyle's memory may be made to the Smith Family, c/o Chelsea Smith, 735B West Main Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
