M. Kirt Salen, JR. Newport, RI - M. Kirt Salen, Jr., 80, of 90 Rhode Island Avenue, Newport, RI, formerly of 34 Kay Street, Newport, Darien, CT, and Ocean Drive, Vero Beach, FL, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at home. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 1, 1927, he was the son of the late Moderwell K. and Margaret Joyce Salen.Mr. Salen had worked as an executive for National Distilers Chemical Corp. in New York City, for 27 years, retiring in 1987. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Columba Berkeley Memorial Chapel. Mr. Salen was an avid gardener. He had been a volunteer with the Aids Foundation, the Newport Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and various other charities. He is survived by his cousin Edward Howell of Tiverton, RI, and his friend David Fisher of Newport, RI. He was also the father of the late John Barry Boyer. Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Columba Berkeley Memorial Chapel, 55 Vaucluse Avenue, Middletown, RI, 02842.
