Middletown, RI - Madeleine E. Silvia, 91, of 70 Harrison Avenue, Newport, RI, formerly of 64 Berkeley Court Middletown, RI, died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Village House Nursing Home, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Manuel P Silvia. Born in Portsmouth, RI on February 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Anna Faria Souza. Mrs. Silvia was active with the Middletown Senior Center for many years. She was a longtime communicate of Jesus Saviour Church and a member of the Rosary Sodality, as well as the Vasco da Gama Society. She enjoyed volunteering with the Middletown Canvassing board and work many elections at various voting sites. Madeleine most enjoyed working for nearly 20 years at Chase Chase Bookstore here in Newport. She is survived by son Manuel P Silvia Jr. and his wife Paula Fitzgerald Silvia of Middletown, RI, her daughters Janice A Rego and her husband Clem of Portsmouth, RI, Linda Michaud and her husband Paul of Middletown, RI, and Madeline Betsy Bric and her husband Maurice of Commerce Township, Michigan. She also leaves her brother John Souza of Portsmouth, RI. She was the grandmother to Michael, Matthew, Christopher and Allison Rego, Nicole Greer, Adam Michaud, Danielle Costa, William and Erin Bric, Corinne and Gregory Silvia, and 10 great grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.She was the sister of the late Florence Medeiros, Isabella Souza, Mary Augustine, Manuel Souza, Angelina Venancio, Emily Marshall, Joseph Souza, Jesse Souza and Dennis Souza. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00-7:00 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Tuesday April 17th, 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in Jesus Savior Church, 1 Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
