Newport, - Madge R Marshall, 91, of Manning Terrace, a retired financial analyst for the City of Newport, died Saturday at home after a short illness.She was the widow of Francis J. Marshall, to whom she was married 66 years. Born in Moselle, MS on June 19, 1911, she was the daughter of the late J. Herbert and Mary Elizabeth McGee Robertson. Mrs. Marshall came to Newport in 1933. She is a descendant of Jeffrey sic Robertson, a member of the First Families of Virginia FFV who migrated to America in the late 1600s, and of Norville Robertson, who pioneered in the settlement of Mississippi after its annexation following the Crow Indian Wars. Norville Robertson also participated in the Battle of Yorktown. Besides the City of Newport, she was an accounting clerk for the Navy Exchange and the former Cherry Webb store in the Bellevue Shopping Center. She retired from the City in 1974. She also worked at the Naval Torpedo Station on Goat Island during World Ware II where she assembled arming fuses and later operated the pantograph machine, previously run exclusively by male machinists. Together with her husband, she was active in Boy Scouting, being a den mother for many years and assisting the so-called ?Indian Ceremonial? team, which conducted various Native American rites in authentic costumes made by the Scouts who wore them. She is survived by two sons Francis J. Marshall 3rd of New York, and James H. Marshall of East Greenwich and Newport, RI, three brothers J. Herbert, Alex and Bruce Robertson, all of New Jersey, four granddaughters Lesley Aman and Katharine Marshall both of New Jersey, Ann Marshall of Salem, MA, and Newport and Mary Marshall of Newport, RI, a grandson Stephen Aman of New Jersey, and two great-grandchildren Christopher and Jennifer Aman also of New Jersey.She was the sister of the late Richard Robertson, Shirley Robertson and Janet McDonald. . The Burial will be private. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2003, at 11:00AM in St. John The Evangelist Church, Washington Street, with calling hours for friends and relatives following the service in the Guild Hall.
